Niagara-on-the-Lake is the heart of Ontario wine culture and a world-renowned wine country destination. Situated below the crest of the Niagara Escarpment and stretching to the Niagara River and the shores of Lake Ontario, this region encompasses four sub-appellations.
Our vineyards are located in the very heart of this re-gion and have produced high quality grapes since 1974 when the Puglisi family purchased their first vineyard in the region.
The family-owned operations are headed by Luciano (Lou) Puglisi and his family, with a grape-growing tradition handed down from one generation to the next. The Puglisi family’s grape growing story began in Sicily, Italy many years ago. Lou, who now carries on the family tradition and passion for the industry has cultivat-ed some of the finest wines in the Niagara Region. His dedication and commitment to excellence earned him the prestigious title of Grape King in 2008, awarded by the Ministry of Agriculture to the finest vineyard operator in Ontario.
In 2013 Lou Puglisi expanded his operations to include Burnt Ship Bay Estate Winery. Together with business partner Marcel Morgenstern, he purchased additional vineyards in the area to ensure that this new venture will follow that same commitment to quality control from vine to bottle.
Fred DiProfio, head winemaker for both wineries and a graduate of Brock University’s Oenology program, has made a name for himself by winning national and international awards for his rich red wines, refreshing white wines and heavenly Icewines.
